Topic Research: The Animal Kingdom of Africa

I decided to use my Africa Storybook idea. I was researching some books from the freebookapolooza collection on Africa and came across one that I started to read. It is called Fairy Tales from South Africa . I liked a story, called The Unnatural Mother, which is about a mother seeking to regain her son's acceptance through a quest for water. Along her journey she is helped by some animals, and in turn, she aids in breaking a spell that turned their town into a forest and the people into animals. Here is my idea: I want to use other fairy tales and stories about the animals that help the Unnatural Mother, which included an Elephant, Tiger, Giraffe, and Rabbit. I would write stories featuring these animals and then for my final story use the Unnatural Mother fairy tale, so it turns out that the animals throughout the storybook were actually people. Topic Brainstorm

Africa Storybook I noticed a general theme between units of stories about animals, so it would be fun to travel throughout Africa as my storybook, using stories about animals - maybe they travel with the reader. However, I looked at the Africa unit and found that the Nigeria and Congo units had stories about human adventures that I would be interested in reading. My mother is from Zimbabwe, and I have visited a couple countries in Africa, so I think it would be fun to take a literary trip through Africa as well.  Native American Storybook When I was younger, my school would host a day, in which people from the community would come to share Native American culture and history with elementary and middle school kids. I always loved when storytellers would come to share a Native American legend. I specifically remember being enchanted when a man with a deep, rich voice told us an origin story.
